# Create targeting from search terms

The "Creating targeting from search terms" feature employs a rule-based approach for keyword and product target harvesting. It integrates reported search terms from a specific period into your ad groups based on chosen parameters and filters.

This tool is designed to efficiently process large volumes of search terms into targeting, allowing operation across multiple campaigns and accounts simultaneously.

{% hint style="info" %}
Currently, cross-account harvesting is not available; harvested terms can only be added as targeting within the same source account. However, alternative methods are available:

* Download the search terms report from the search terms page and use it to prepare a [new upload file](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/ads-launcher/spreadsheet-bulk-uploads.md).
* Manually add targeting from the [ad groups page](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/bulk-manager/ad-groups/create-targeting-from-ad-groups.md).
 {% endhint %}

### Harvesting terms

* [x] To initiate the process of create targeting from currently selected search terms, click the "Add search terms" option under "Actions" in the [actions bar](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/cross-module-components/data-tables/actions-bar.md).

#### Defining parameters

The process of harvesting terms is divided into various sections for parameter definition. This enables customization of targeting criteria to ensure only the intended targets are created. These key sections include:

[Match types and negative match types](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/bulk-manager/search-terms/create-targeting-from-search-terms/match-types-and-negative-match-types.md)
{% endcontent-ref %}

[Ad group methods](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/bulk-manager/search-terms/create-targeting-from-search-terms/ad-group-methods.md)
{% endcontent-ref %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Match type/negative match type and ad group method selections are mandatory.
{% endhint %}

[Output](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/bulk-manager/search-terms/create-targeting-from-search-terms/output.md)
{% endcontent-ref %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Output parameters are optional and can be adjusted as needed.
{% endhint %}

#### Implementing/discarding changes

* [x] **Apply:** Implements the changes made in the filter conditions and operators. Once you have set your desired parameters, clicking "Apply" will launch the [preview window](/managing-advertising-accounts/modules/cross-module-components/preview-mode.md), showing you the newly created targeting that meets the specified criteria.

* [ ] **Close (x):** Returns you to the data table without applying any changes. This option is useful when you decide not to proceed with the targeting creation parameters you were exploring.

### Case scenarios

#### **Adding top converting terms**

Identify search terms with high conversion rates. Add them as targeted keywords or product targets to boost campaign profitability.

#### **Discovering the potential of new terms**

Locate well-performing search terms from automatic campaigns. Create targeting in manual campaigns for enhanced control and precision.

#### **Refining campaigns with negatives**

Spot irrelevant or non-converting terms. Use them as negative keywords or product targets to minimize ad spend waste.

#### **Expanding category product targeting**

Evaluate search term performance in category targeting. Create individual product targets from the most successful terms.
